In Prison by Debra Smith is a book about two perspectives of being in prison, the first is of the worker in the prison, the second the view of prisoners. It is based on a PhD thesis study of a correctional centre and the author's work inside the prison for over seven years. The book is about what happens in prison, why we have prisons, and things that could improve the prison system. The book is a personal account and includes many direct quotes from different prisoners. Proceeds of the book sales are donated to The Bridge Foundation, a local community agency based in Gippsland which works to advocate for prisoners on release, supports education and training of prisoners, and publishes prisoner work.
